the story behind muse

Muse Mentorship Collective was founded by Toi Henderson with a clear belief: students thrive when they have access to consistent encouragement, practical guidance, and meaningful opportunities to grow.

Muse was created to help students understand that their circumstances do not define their potential. Through school-based programming, community workshops, mentorship, and family engagement, the organization gives young people tools to navigate challenges, recognize their strengths, and prepare for life beyond the classroom.

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, I grew up as the oldest of ten siblings in an environment where crime, instability, and limited opportunities were part of everyday life. My journey hasn't been perfect—I dropped out of high school—but I earned my diploma the same year I was supposed to graduate, proving that setbacks don't have to define your future.

I went on to earn certifications in Interior Decorating and Fashion & Merchandising and am currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Management. Every step has strengthened my belief that education, resilience, and mentorship can change lives.

Muse Mentorship Collective was created from my own experiences and the guidance I wished I had growing up. My mission is to help young girls build confidence, discover their purpose, and realize that where they start in life does not determine where they can go.

I see her because I was her. And I built Muse to ensure every girl knows she is seen, supported, and capable of achieving more than she ever imagined.
